Maglev Levitation Kit

Maglev Levitation Kit


 Model Maglev Train Kit:


Step 1:    Gather 4 blocks tape end to end.  (Scotch Tape) 




Step 2:  Adding the Track


Step 2 (B):  

Place Rails 1.6cm apart
       
Step 3:   Add Magnet to track










(A)---    Place tape on side without a line through it. Line should be facing upwards. 2x’s.


(B)---   Place magnet strip on track. Again lines must be facing up.

Step 4:  The Train

Tape magnet strips to sides of block.    Lines must be facing up.



STEP 5:    FINAL PRODUCT

We put together  a Maglev levitation kit. The experiment turned out to be a success.  Experiment overview will be uploaded shortly.  We are now going to be coming up with ways to improve train. And a design to improve the electromagnets.

Procedure of 5/1/12

Today we took apart an electromagnet, and came up with 3 designs of electromagnets. Another observation that we made was that the strip magnets needs to be placed precised in order for their to be any kind of levitation.

Some issues that we Cole, Pat and I ran into today during class as we were experimenting with our magnets, is that we need to come up with an efficient way of making a magnet levitate by itself so that we can use that concept for the Maglev Train
